Puerto Princesa Underground River Finally One of the “New 7 Wonders of Nature”
Finally Philippines’ Puerto Princesa Underground River made it to the list of the 2012 New 7 Wonders of Nature as Bernard Weber, Founder-President of New7Wonders annouced it recently. Puerto Princesa Undergroun River is second to Jeju Island in South Korea.
“When your very own President Aquino came out in support of the PPUR campaign, I knew that this country was taking the New7Wonders of Nature seriously,” Weber said. “Fans of PPUR all over the world responded to his call for action by voting in record numbers and today’s confirmation is the well-earned reward for this extraordinary display of enthusiasm,” he added.
Furthermore, verification process of the remaining 5 Provisional Winners are still being processed namely: Amazon, Halong Bay, Iguazu Falls, Komodo, and Table Mountain.

The Philippines’ Puerto Princesa Undergroun River aka Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park (PPSRNP) is one of the most important biodiversity conservation areas of the Philippines. It features a spectacular limestone or karst landscape that contains an 8.2 km long underground river. A distinguishing feature of the river is that it flows directly into the sea, and the lower half portion of the river is brackish and subject to tidal influence. The area also represents significant habitat for biodiversity conservation. It contains a full mountain to the sea ecosystem and protects forests, which are among the most significant in Asia.
